Nuits Américaines
In the 19th Century, small factories were constructed along the Charentonne and Risle rivers in lower Normandy using the strong river currents as a source of energy. Built on a simple architectural blueprint with brick as a construction material, they have been structurally altered and adapted throughout the years. Their presence in the Normandy landscape and the space surrounding them was evocative of imagined American landscapes in old Western movies where the ‘Nuit Americaine’ (Day for Night) technique was used in Hollywood westerns in the fifties to overcome the lack of film sensitivity.
