Abstract Polaroïds

From precision to imprecision

Photography is all about control: the measurement of light, the right aperture, the right exposure. Mistakes and imperfections are largely unaccepted unless exaggerated to show that they really are intentional.
As technology develops so does the full-proof perfect photograph and of course the potential to construct, change and alter the original.
We work with a large format camera: we ‘read’ the light, fix the aperture and calculate the exposure time according to what we want to achieve. Every step of the process is a premeditated calculation that takes time, demands patience and requires a certain technical skill.
This is why we use Instant film; to check that our calculations correspond to the image we are aiming for. But sometimes things go wrong and the result opens up a new perspective.
